The treaty deals with three main issues: fiscal stability, economic coordination and convergence, and governance of the euro area. It requires euro area Member States to strengthen fiscal discipline through a balanced budget rule and an automatic correction mechanism. It also formalises the holding of Euro Summit meetings and the role of the President of the Euro Summit.
