According to Kiørboe (2011), ambush feeding is a foraging strategy where the predator remains stationary or moves very slowly in the water column, waiting for prey to come within striking distance. This strategy minimizes hydrodynamic disturbances, making the predator less detectable to prey. Once prey is detected, typically through mechanosensory or chemosensory cues, the predator rapidly strikes to capture it.
