The Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard (CMECS, FGDC-STD-018-2012) ) is a collection of terms and and definitions (units) for classifying and describing aquatic environments. Units are organized in a framework of thematic, interrelated, semi-hierarchical components and settings designed for analyzing and mapping observational data within geographic information systems (GIS). CMECS is a US National Ecological Classification Standard published by the US Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC). , The Coastal and Marine Ecological Classifcation Standard (CMECS) is a collection of terms and and defintions for classifying and describing aquatic environments.
